Background
Harley Dykstra has a strong history of providing professional survey services to BGC Construction (BGC) and this service provision continues with our current support of the construction of the new Busselton Civic and Administration Centre. Harley Dykstra’s professional staff have proven their survey credentials on projects such as the Eaton Fair Redevelopment and this project also draws on their experience in multi-storey piled, steel, concrete and tilt panel construction.
Challenges
The project is running on a strict timeframe, as presently all of the City’s employees are operating out of temporary premises and as a result, civic functions such as Council Meetings are being held in makeshift circumstances. Therefore the desire is for the City to move into purpose-built premises as soon as possible. Our survey team are able to assist BGC in endeavouring to meet tight deadlines by providing pro-active services on a short lead-time as required.
Another challenge presented by the project is that of continually changing design, as revisions and improvements are made to the building design whilst it is being constructed. This requires our staff to be diligent in ensuring that the current design is used for all survey work and set-out and changes are tracked as they are made. We are working alongside BGC by using their online project management software which is helping to track and distribute the many amendments as they are made.
Outcomes
The project has a very high profile in the town of Busselton as the site is located on the entrance to the city centre. The professional approach of our staff and their interactions with those on the building site ensure that the project is conducted in a manner worthy of its public location.
