Ferndale Avenue Provides New Entry Point to Forrest Highway for Dalyellup Residents

The Project Brief:

The Ferndale Avenue intersection upgrade was initiated to create a new entry and exit point onto Bussell Highway for the growing community of Dalyellup, located just south of Bunbury. This infrastructure improvement aimed to ease traffic congestion, enhance accessibility, and provide greater safety for local residents and commuters. The intersection sits just north of the existing Dalyellup entrance and required careful integration with the existing road network and surrounding development.

The works were undertaken as part of Main Roads’ broader strategy to improve traffic flow along key regional routes. Given the critical nature of survey accuracy for a project of this scale—particularly one involving integration with a major arterial road—Harley Dykstra was engaged to provide comprehensive survey services from initial setup through to project completion.

Our involvement included:

Initial Establishment Surveys – verifying road tie-in accuracy and the integrity of the original feature survey used in design.

Control Network Upgrade – enhancing the existing survey control network to meet the accuracy and coverage demands of modern machine control operations.

Machine Control Readiness – preparing the site with verified data to enable accurate, efficient machine-controlled construction.

As-Constructed Surveying – capturing and validating constructed elements to Main Roads WA specifications for compliance and handover.

On-Site Problem Solving – working collaboratively with the project team to resolve issues as they arose during construction, ensuring progress was not delayed.

Our licensed surveyors maintained close communication with the project engineers, contractors, and Main Roads representatives to ensure seamless coordination and adherence to critical project timelines.

Project to Date:

The new Ferndale Avenue intersection has now been successfully delivered and is operational, providing a much-needed alternative access point for Dalyellup residents and improving regional traffic movement. The intersection is expected to alleviate pressure on existing routes and enhance overall safety for road users.
